About Cheer

Cheer is a physical and competitive sport wherein its athletes learn and implement jumps, dance, stunts and tumbling into a routine. They hone their skills and techniques in an effort to consistantly perfect their craft and and compete at various local, national and international competitions throughout the season. Cheer focuses on flexibility, endurance, strength and coordination and is an excellent way to build self confidence, develop friendships and set personal goals as an individual, and team member.

Competitive cheer’s goal is to be the best. Just like gymnasts, they are awarded points for difficulty, technique, creativity and sharpness. The more difficult a skill or a stunt, the sharper and more in-sync the motions, the better the score. Cheer is a team sport so without cooperation and synchronization, first place is out of reach.

Competitive Cheer                                     COMPETITIVE CHEER

Langley Cheer prides itself on offering competitive teams for everyone from ages 3 – 40 for beginners and for the advanced.

The foundation of our competitive program is built on training, fitness and regular competition. Langley Cheer & Athletic’s sole focus is on team development, individual skill advancement and the development of the athlete as a whole. Teams will compete in several local competitions throughout the season and one travel competition per year.

All star cheer not only works on building strong physical athletes while having fun; it helps develop confidence, life long friendships, team work, and dedication!

Our competitive program currently includes teams with Level 1 and Level 2 skills.

LEVEL 1: Level 1 is the first level for competitive athletes. Most athletes who have never cheered before will start on a level 1 team to gain the experience and skills required for all other levels. Some tumbling skills in this level include handstands, forward rolls, cartwheels, roundoffs, and walkovers. Stunting skills at this level include double bases, cradles, single legged stunts at waist level. No tosses will be competed at this level.

LEVEL 2: Level 2 will build off of the skills learned and perfected on your Level 1 team. Tumbling skills at this level include dive rolls and front and back handsprings. Stunting skills at this level include extentions, single legged stunts at prep level and straight ride tosses.

                                        INTENSIVE CHEER                                                 Intensive Cheer

Langley Cheer & Athletics is proud to offer our Intensive Teams, the first local gym to provide this type of training. The intensive teams are for those skilled athletes who want to take their cheer training to the next level. Founded around the gymnastics model of structured training, these teams will practice more hours then your average cheer teams.

It is important that families and athletes understand the commitment that is required to be on one of these intensive teams. These teams are for the serious athlete, who attends every practice no matter what the situation is and is a positive team player who brings their best each and every time.

Athletes on our Intensive teams are selected by our coaches after team placements in May of each year. If you are interested in being on our Intensive teams please call or email us today.

Our Intensive program currently offers teams for athletes with Level 3 and Level 4 skills.

LEVEL 3: Level 3 skills build off of what was practiced and perfected on a Level 2 team. Level 3 tumbling includes series back and front handsprings and back tucks. Stunting at this level allows for extended single leg stunts as well as fulldowns and 1 trick tosses.

LEVEL 4: Level 4 skills continue those mastered in Level 3. Tumbling in Level 4 includes flip flip combinations as well as layouts and jump to handspring. Stunting in Level 4 includes double trick tosses, double fulldowns, and braced flips in pyramids.
